In my opinion, this is not a major problem (but the foam on nightclub ceilings was not a major problem either until recently). In the media, a minority of content makes the most noise. The spectacular and the monstrous sell, people want to see grotesque bimbos, flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers and Trump like they want to see circus freaks. This is not a big problem as long as such content has only negligible political weight. For now, our educational and media system is solid enough to avoid incidents like the assault on the Capitol in 2021. Even the youngest thus manage (for the time being) to easily understand that conspiracy theories, those of Baud as well as those of climate or covid deniers, do not aim at truth, do not withstand genuine debate and are politically oriented to defend certain interests. But we must remain vigilant and fight against informational (and political) sectarianism.

Of course! In a democratic system, individuals vote and actively participate in political life. We therefore have a great responsibility in choosing our vote and the representatives we elect, as this will have an (indirect) impact on all other citizens. Conspiracy theories and false information poison democracy because they destabilise our institutions by bringing doubt, loss of confidence and distrust amongst citizens. The very pillar of democracy is being attacked: us! Why? Citizens have the power to change the political direction of our institutions more than any other citizen in another country. We must therefore fight against this false information, prevent it and educate people. We must make citizens active in their search for information, not passive. Democracy thrives when its citizens are responsible and educated.
