We can impose restrictions, but then companies will simply invest more in the USA. I'm actually not averse to more regulation either, but anyone who wants to expand it is putting ideology above reality. If we look at which major new companies have emerged in recent years, Europe has been left completely behind. That's why we urgently need fewer rules, both in the tech sector and for private investment.

I believe that the point of friction is not between "rules" and "freedom", but between the rules of one country and the rules of other countries, with the risk culture that comes with it. Apparently, with too many rules, we condemn our companies to being less competitive and we end up depending on large American or Chinese corporations. If they respected our laws on data protection and consumer protection, the "big tech" companies would be much less "big". The least we can say is that US big tech has more than enough freedom and enjoys advantages.

In Switzerland, we had the "sandbox" principle for innovative financial products, such as cryptocurrencies (with limits on the funds to be managed). We also have products reserved for "qualified investors", as we consider that the risks of these products are not suitable for non-professionals. Perhaps this is what we should do with tech, with two basic rules: limitation of potential damage and information symmetry.
