In the Swiss Criminal Code, there is an article - not to cite it - Article 322 septies SCC which stipulates: "Any person who offers, promises or grants an undue advantage to a person acting for a foreign state or an international organisation as a member of a judicial or other authority, as a civil servant, as an expert, translator or interpreter appointed by an authority, or as an arbitrator or military officer, in favour of that person or a third party, for the performance or omission of an act in connection with their official activity and which is contrary to their duties or dependent on their discretionary power, (...), shall be punished by a custodial sentence not exceeding five years or by a monetary penalty."

Bowing down to Trump will bring nothing to Switzerland, except being "racketeered" even more... because it is indeed racketeering!

Whether this represents a good outcome can at best be answered with "Yes, but". As is so often the case, it is not possible to answer a complex issue definitively with yes or no. 15% punitive tariffs are definitely better for the Swiss economy than 39%. The 70% unreflective rejection of the negotiated deal by the community is somewhat surprising. Unfortunately, it is rarely about absolute justice. Ultimately, the "best outcome" in such a starting position is to swallow the smallest "bitter pill". At this point, the balance of power between the two nations must also be taken into account. At least we now have a level playing field with our neighbours. Of course, it is easy for those (still) not directly affected to criticise and demand standing firm. Do 70% of users here want to explain to those who would no longer be allowed to turn up at their workplace that they lost it with pride and dignity, however?
