In principle, both should go hand in hand. But the two main problems of local agriculture are: Switzerland as a high-price island and bureaucratic monster, with already considerably stricter regulations than 99.9% of competing imported products. Logically, farms must also ensure that the accounts balance at least reasonably well despite considerable market disadvantages; whereby an expansion of corresponding subsidies would then probably not be right for many people either. Moreover, the term "sustainability" has long since degenerated into a populist catchword. It sounds - supposedly - "good" and can be regurgitated as often as desired without having to say anything concrete; but when asked to explain the term, most people have no idea and must first "consult" a dictionary.... 🤔🤪🥱😜

Sustainability and productivity are perfectly compatible! When I was a student at EPFL in the 90s, our professors told us that intensive agriculture had no future, and that we needed to switch to extensive agriculture by recreating hedgerows and re-enriching soils with organic matter such as RCW (ramial chipped wood)... amongst other things. Hedgerows help fight erosion and preserve biodiversity, the latter allowing natural control of crop pests and thus reducing or eliminating the use of pesticides depending on the crops. RCW allows soil to become alive again through microbial life and worms that aerate the earth by creating tunnels, which facilitates water infiltration and root penetration! But currently many agricultural lands are biologically dead and chemical inputs are essential! Thanks to the Federal Council at the beck and call of the Basel lobby and never mind the future of our children! DOWN WITH THEM!
