I am in favour of health insurance that shows solidarity between the healthy and the sick. And also solidarity between the rich and the poor (this is already the case de facto, with the subsidies and caps in force in several cantons). I would therefore be rather in favour of income-based premiums. This would be a relief for the most disadvantaged, but it would not solve anything. At best, the system would work for a few years (a breath of fresh air for the poor), but we would quickly find ourselves back in the same situation as we are in now.

I am therefore taking the opposite view to my initial opinion: let us keep the current system until it becomes unbearable for a majority of the population. It will then be easier to get ideas accepted to change the system (since the majority would be dissatisfied). I admit this is somewhat cynical...

When will we have a system that prioritises prevention? Paying to stay healthy might not be such a bad thing.

Nothing is more unjust than the current health insurance premium system. Progressive health insurance premiums based on income should have been implemented from the very beginning of the Health Insurance Act. That said, this will have no impact on healthcare costs. New medical technologies, an ageing population and other factors come into play. For your information, I am retired and I am on my own. I have contributed to the system all my life and fortunately I have also benefited from it when illness came. We benefit from an excellent healthcare system and we hope this will continue. Premiums are expensive, certainly, but solidarity must be maintained and improved. And a little less money for armaments would also be good to support health, education and research!
