I find that this theme really has a "holiday activity" flavour to it.
The season is ripe for a debate about 5 weeks per year, before returning to what occupies us for the other 47.

Pointing the finger at airplanes and mass tourism as the source of all evils allows us to divert attention from the daily car journeys that are much more harmful.
To this, we can add our impulse purchases on "deals not to be missed" from our local retailers.

Personally, I have to juggle between school holiday dates, my wife's employer's schedule and mine, we need to find a destination & activities that suit everyone at an affordable price; so if we have to add the well-being of mosquitoes to the equation, we're left with nothing but balconies.

My holiday choices are based on the impact the trip will have:

on myself

on the place I'm going to

on the place I'm leaving from

on my loved ones here

on my hosts there

To do this, I can't think in terms of restrictions on my rights. Indeed, this would be depressing because there are many restrictions, and it would therefore diminish my power to act.

Essentially, the question I ask myself is: How can I do good and feel good with little?

It's a bit like an optimisation game, as when buying a product. But it's also a search for solutions to a puzzle, a brain teaser.

The other pleasures I derive are due to the positive aspect of the question, and to the fact that it takes me out of my loneliness, out of my daily worries, through empathy.

Finally, it prevents me from going on holiday just to work better afterwards. In other words, it prevents me from reducing my life to a pendulum movement where the credit of work compensates for the debt of holidays.
