The result doesn't surprise me. Equal rights and wokeness are simply not the same... I would vote the same way in this survey (as an old, white man). No one should be discriminated against because of their gender or current gender identity - just as they shouldn't be because of their skin colour, nationality, etc. But: I am against linguistic confusions like the hiccup gender (which then still somehow only sounds feminine), against asterisks (that don't hang in the sky), and against the arrogance of everyone wanting to tell me that they are gay or otherwise different. Diversity should be natural and lived, and therefore not pushed to the forefront in every sentence. I myself lead a team with a lesbian employee who will be getting married shortly. I'm genuinely happy for her because I know and like her. Otherwise, I'm not interested, either in business or in private, in how someone currently feels about themselves - as it's not relevant.

The constitution and legislation (e.g. the Criminal Code) explicitly protect LGBTQ+ people as they should in an enlightened democracy.

However, I find it dangerous that some extremists "take advantage" of debates that disturb them or that they do not understand (e.g. change of gender identity and/or pronoun) to question this protection in its entirety.

The process: aspects of identity that are not understood are trivialised, minimised and finally reduced to a "personal choice". Not only does this show blatant ignorance of the subject, it is also malicious. Indeed, it denies victim status to people affected by violence, as they simply have to "accept their choices". So in other words, if a trans person is beaten up by transphobes, it's their fault? Should they have "chosen a different lifestyle"? Unbelievable.

This attitude is not harmless at all, as it legitimises violence. And what worries me is that this attitude is very widespread. I am a teacher, and I hear statements of this kind from students, other teachers, parents, and the school administration.

So yes, protection, which comes not only through laws but also through social control, still leaves much to be desired...
