Cybercrime is not the big problem. The real problem is the increase in violence by foreign criminals. The statistics clearly show this. In comparison, the cybercrime problem is not at all relevant. The laconic statement that the proportion of asylum seekers has remained stable at 7% was immediately shot down by Zurich Cantonal Councillor Mario Fehr in his comments in the NZZ. The fact is that violent Afghan criminals pose a massive problem. The proportion of asylum seekers in serious violent crimes and rapes is about 9 times higher than their share of the population. Incidentally, serious crimes committed by the population living in Switzerland with permanent residence (Swiss and foreigners) have decreased - which shows that the problems are quite different from what this strange expert is saying. The knife question, by the way, can probably be answered similarly. Fehr and real experts are therefore calling for the consistent deportation of Afghan criminals!

Yes, and we need to invest in all areas affected by this form of crime, namely:

· Resources granted to investigative authorities

· IT infrastructures of companies and administrations

· "Digital education" of users

I have noticed that security is often considered a burden by companies and an unnecessary constraint by users.

The exponential development of artificial intelligence allows for the creation of increasingly effective tools for forensic IT specialists; conversely, it boosts organised crime in the field of cybercrime.

The widespread digital processing of our data is highly strategic; stating this is a truism. I am amazed at how vulnerable companies are and how they have elementary security gaps. If we consider ransomware, which is particularly prevalent and encrypts data on a device, it is important to perform effective, incremental, daily backups, especially on independent media stored securely. However, we find that some SMEs do not perform these backups or (as I recently read) save them on the same disk as their computer... incredible!

There are still too many people who click on links embedded in unknown emails out of sheer curiosity. Not to mention those who install pirated software, browse the internet from an "administrator" account, don't update their OS, etc.: a vast subject!

Hence the educational means I highlight above. It would be wise for awareness of digital risks to be part of basic education from primary school onwards, given the ever-younger age of some users.

In my opinion, the Federal Council should include this digital pedagogy in its future Swiss Digital Strategy.
