Read in "20 Minutes" yesterday: 57 billion km (57,000,000,000) travelled by Swiss private traffic in 2024, excluding lorries.

By limiting speed to 80km/h on motorways, so that lorries, buses and cars all have the same limit, and reducing to 60km/h on secondary roads, we would save 1 litre of petrol per 100km. This would amount to 570 million litres per year or 1,561,643 litres per day, thus 4.8 tonnes of CO2.

The Confederation, which is committed to fighting climate change, should be delighted with this.
But giving up a bit more than 500 million per year...
Because at approximately 90 centimes of tax per litre, 1,400,000 francs would remain in motorists' pockets daily.

It prefers to let them drive and especially to let traffic jams continue. Accelerating and slowing down - there's nothing better for burning fuel.

Yes, the Swiss government is doing more than enough to follow the dictates of the right-thinking people on this issue. Those who think more needs to be done, or even that we can "save the climate" (!), are people who only listen to the eco-socialist political class currently at the helm in Europe. If they listened to climate and climate change specialists, they would think very differently. That said, it is not so much the responsibility of governments to establish an attitude of respect for the environment and nature, as well as a real effort to stop pollution (all of which are far more important than "climate protection", that gigantic nonsense). This responsibility falls to each of us personally. But that is a tune that the right-thinking people don't really like to hear, as far as one can judge by observing the behaviour around us...
