It seems to me that driving a vehicle can be summed up quite well as a series of algorithms, that is, rules to be followed. The quality of driving can be tested and apparently, currently, the machine performs better than humans, detecting dangers, obstacles, etc. more quickly and braking or reacting faster than a human. It doesn't get tired and doesn't daydream while admiring the landscape from the Chillon viaduct; it doesn't get distracted when children are arguing loudly in the back seat.

There are undoubtedly still some borderline cases (typically during roadworks, when there are new lines painted on the road over the usual lines, or if the road is damaged, we can assume that the AI will hesitate for a fraction of a second and potentially make a mistake. But not to the point of crashing into a wall or a pedestrian. And subsequently, it can learn to handle these kinds of cases too. Of course, AI or not, your car remains an object and as such, it assumes no responsibility. But to the extent that the few errors it makes are ones you would have made anyway, it doesn't matter.

Leave me in peace in my car. The assistance systems in newer vehicles are intrusive enough, which are being forced upon me by the legislators with supposedly good intentions. At least their deactivation after each restart, if it's even still possible. I praise my old bangers, which simply do what they were designed and built for, namely DRIVING. May they continue to serve their purpose for a long time with adequate maintenance. It spares nerves, the environment, and the bank balance.
