All those Ukrainians who seek shelter here from bombs and soldiers who threaten their lives are welcome!

However, we expect our guests to integrate as well as possible into our Swiss way of life.

This means we expect them to quickly become self-sufficient. Anyone who doesn't want to learn the language or doesn't seek their own income will simply no longer be welcome one day. We don't want to work for two families!!!

Too often, the Swiss have the impression that these guests are making themselves a comfortable life here and don't think about relieving the burden on the state, in favour of other people in need. A comfortable life must be earned here as well.

I know people from Ukraine who have settled in very well within a year. They now also speak Swiss German and have established themselves professionally very well through their own initiative. It's possible if you want to. For some faster, for others slower, but it's possible.

You have to listen to what it means to flee your country, from the mouths of those who have lived through it. The break, the loss, the suffering and the difficulty of integrating in a new country where nothing is the same, right down to the alphabet. I imagine fleeing to Ukraine and trying to integrate by learning Ukrainian, having left everything behind, having to start all over again. And to be told that my status as a war refugee is in danger of being revoked because some people in my new country feel that I'm taking advantage of their kindness while I struggle to find work, spend my free time learning to read in their alphabet and in my national language classes. Frankly, I don't know if my mind could stand it. And I don't want to put the Ukrainians through that extra ordeal.
