The events that took place in the Catholic sector may certainly be a reason why some people can no longer identify with the church. However, this has nothing to do with faith in God himself. You can also believe without the Church, because the Church is representative of God. I don't need a representative to believe.

I also think that we are distancing ourselves from faith because of ideological and scientific developments and/or because faith no longer has a place in everyday life.

We no longer need a supernatural explanation for everything we don't understand, or we don't hold God responsible for it. This may have worked in the Dark Ages, but today we are much more educated and - with a few exceptions - no longer follow radical approaches to faith. Even if the church were to advertise more, the increase would be rather small.

It is clearly the fault of the individual representatives and supposed pastors of the churches. Especially among Catholics, it is an untenable situation with this completely useless and both religiously and biologically absurd celibacy. I would be very surprised what Catholic "dignitaries" have a sexual organ for. If the good Lord were consistent, these sex bearers would have nothing in their bodies and in their pants, which is an impossibility per se. And last but not least, have you ever thought about what the church tries to teach us? For example, thou shalt not ....

Arguing with prohibitions and a guilty conscience is about the stupidest thing that never works and will never work with humans, but for centuries it has been the popular religious mantra on which the legitimacy of the churches, and in particular the Catholic Church, is dogmatically based.
