The mistake was made a generation or two ago, when the Swiss Confederation divided up the PTT, which grouped together all forms of paper, telephone and telegraph messaging. Instead of developing this federal agency in line with the new means of communication, it was sacrificed on the pretext of greater competitive efficiency. We can see the results today. We've closed hundreds of post offices, opened hundreds of Swisscomshops and abandoned telephony to a duopoly of Europe's most expensive operators. What a waste! We could have made the transition from grandpa's communication methods to today's in just one or two generations, without any clashes or loss of know-how. The same thing happened on a global scale, where we went from the universal post office to the current jungle, with numerous service downgrades and rate increases. Well done!

All the same, I find it quite incredible to imply that customers are responsible for the changes that the Post Office has been imposing on them for years, in order to justify its dismantling.

Customers don't need 4 walls for Poste's services. True, but as long as they have to do everything themselves, La Poste doesn't need their money either, and everything should be free.

Not to mention that the village grocery store will never replace a real service. And with the abolition of post offices, it's getting harder to get cash when you're out of the way. The village store doesn't offer this.

La Poste must be a universal service and stop trying to make profits at all costs through digital technology. The Confederation must intervene when things go too far.
