At first I thought I'd put a dignified death, but I decided to put "no opinion". Indeed, how could I have an opinion when I myself have not been confronted with this choice, because in the end it is an individual choice of the person concerned, without external influence.

Everyone can put forward theological, philosophical or scientific arguments. And here I ask you: which religion? which philosophy? which scientific viewpoint? There is no right or wrong answer, because every human being should have the choice to refer to HIS beliefs or values.

In the end, it's up to each individual to choose for him or herself. A difficult choice, but one that should be possible without external judgment.

The project for assisted dying has grown at an accelerating rate around the world. However, most countries do not have such a provision, and the ones that do have replicated a singular model that is based on a revision of a country‘s criminal code where the state becomes the provider for the service. This has created enormous problems over the last several decades, both for the service providers, and those who are seeking relief by having an assisted death. When the state is the provider it becomes institutionalized and highly politicized. Government decides what quality of life is worth   denying  or, alternatively what life is not worth living any longer, thus allowing access for the provision.The Canadian example is emblamatic of the prevailing model and has encountered enormous problems through delays, repeated litigation to allow people denied the service access for it, and creating a backlash by those who are opposed to the entire project. This explains why so many people will continue to come to Switzerland and now Germany because the autonomy of the individual is highly respected in both countries and importantly, the provision for assisted dying has not been legislated. Hopefully, even under pressure, Switzerland will not cave to changing its unique model that would only result in difficulties for all implicated.
